Since Halloween, our kids have only been focused on video games and candy. We need to make sure our
Dental Plan is current :). This has my mind rolling about how these things could serve educationally.
Satellite Internet Service Providers are beginning to think about how Internet games can reach into the classr…

Hey all; I recently graduated from Kent State University after teaching three composition classes which focused on video games, and I agreed to write a feature about my experience for the website 1UP.com. For the article, I'm going to need to interview others who did the same thing (preferably in college composition classes, though general use of games in the classroom can work as well) so my scope can be a bit wider than my own story.
If you'd like to contribute -- basically, answer a few ques…

I've just joined Ning and Video Games as Learning Tools. As a grad student studying how to use commercial games for education, this is a great find for me.
I'm planning to begin building a web-based resource for teachers who are interested in using commercial games in their classrooms, but do not have a strong background in gaming. I'd truly appreciate any feedback that you can provide on my approach.
You can read more about my "big idea" on…

How are newspapers going to survive in the new world. I hope they can find better ways than to use
Call Center Software to put calls in at dinner or take out more ads for
International Travel Insurance.
I was reading today about a newspaper in Rochester, NY that has created a game that is an alternative reality. It is helping them to shore up…

As well as my job as an ICT teacher I make models for Iclone http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/. I have used this software to motivate students on topics they find difficult to to understand. A good example was William Shakespeare's "The Tempest. I introduced them to iClone and they were quite happy to go away and learn all about the tempest and come back write there scripts and do editing etc. This gave the students excellent ICT skills as well as English knowledge.
Maybe not gaming but not far…

I am a big fan of SF0. This alternate reality game reminds me of Fluxus Happenings. You become a member, choose tasks, submit proof, and await the judgment of fellow gamers for scoring. If you do not post evidence, you end up being flagged.

I got a message from her asking if I want to chat on camera and that I would enjoy it. I am curious? Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Hi All,
I am working on a wiki project to collect links to video games along with ideas on how it can be used in a traditional classroom setting. I'm not looking for simulations, but actual games that teach some concept. I'm more interested in using games in creative ways rather than the typical drill and practice type games. I have not started the wiki yet, but I will post it when I do. I'd love to know any ideas of games you've used in your classrooms and more importantly, HOW you used them.…

Hi,
I just joined this group hoping that there might be some discussion on video games. I don't see much so I'll ask this question. Any one know any good sources for free educational programs dealing with science or any topic. Here are a couple of good web connections I've used for simulations:
http://phet.colorado.edu/simulations/index.php?cat=Featured_Sims

What are some programs you can download for computers not connected to internet?
Thank…
